SS1 Spindle Synchronization
----------------------------
Jumper SS1 controls the spindle synchronization function.
SS1 INSTALLED (factory default)
The spindle synchronization signal is enabled onto pin 28 of
Signal Connector J1.
SS1 NOT INSTALLED
The spindle synchronization signal is not enabled onto pin 28 of
Signal Connector J1.
ST1 Spindle Synchronization Signal
-----------------------------------
ST1 INSTALLED
The drive receives the spindle synchronization signal from pin
28 of Signal Connector J1.
ST1 NOT INSTALLED (factory default)
The drive emits the spindle synchronization signal onto pin 28
of Signal Connector J1.
ID0/ID1 Master/Slave Selection
-------------------------------
The interface allows up to two drives (a Master and one Slave) to be
attached to the AT/IDE bus.

Drive emulates BOTH Master and Slave:
-------------------------------------
Specifies that one drive can emulate BOTH the Master drive (Drive 0)
and the Slave drive (Drive 1). This option allows for existing host
systems to utilize the full capacity of the drive.
When the drive is configured as BOTH the Master and the Slave, the
following partition is implemented:
Model 4110A
Drive 0: 1024 cylinders, 16 heads, 63 sectors
Drive 1: 1024 cylinders, 16 heads, 63 sectors
Drive is Master, Slave is present:
----------------------------------
Specifies the Master drive (Drive 0) when two drives are used in a
system. The other drive is Slave.
Drive is Slave:
---------------
Specifies the Slave drive (Drive 1) when two drives are used in a
system. The other drive is Master.
Drive is Master:
----------------
Specifies the Master drive (Drive 0) when one drive is used in a
system.
When the drive is configured as a Master or as a Slave, the re-
commended drive type parameters are as follows:
Model 4110A: 2048 cylinders, 16 heads, 63 sectors

Notes on Installation
=====================
Dimensions and Mounting
-----------------------
The drive uses industry-standard mounting for 3 1/2-inch, 1-inch high
Winchester disk drives.
Recommended orientation is vertical on either side, or horizontal
with the Device Electronics board down; other mounting orientations
may be used.
horizontally vertically

| +-----+ +-----+ |
+--+ +--+
No matter what mounting orientation is used, Micropolis specifies
that the maximum HDA casting temperature not exceed 60*C (140*F).
CAUTION
The mounting screws must be selected so that they do not penetrate
the bottom mounting holes by more than 0.20 inches or the side
mounting holes by more than 0.156 inches. Screws that are too long
may short to PCBA components.
HDA Casting Temperature
-----------------------
Micropolis specifies the maximum HDA casting temperature to be 65*C
(149*F). Not exceeding this temperature will ensure that head-to-
media interface never exceeds its temperature limit.
If the HDA casting temperature measurement cannot be made, the
ambient air temperature around the drive must be kept at or below
50*C (122*F).
J1 Signal Connector
--------------------
Signal Connector J1 is a 40-pin connector. The bus interface
connection is made via this connector. Signals on J1 include the 16-
bit data bus and control and address lines.
Recommended Cable: 3M Scotchflex 3302-40 or equivalent
Pins: AMP 350078-4
Suggested Wire Size: 18 AWG
J1A Power Connector
--------------------
Power is supplied to the drive via connector J1A (4-pin, keyed, AMP-
MATE-N-LOCK).This power connector is the industry standard and is
used in most applications.
The recommended mating connector is AMP 1-480424-0 or equivalent;
the recommended pins are AMP 350078-4, or equivalent.
pin 1 +12 VDC
pin 2 +12 Volts Return
pin 3 + 5 Volts Return
pin 4 + 5 VDC
J1B Power Connector
--------------------
J1B is a 3-pin, keyed connector. Both +5V and +12V are supplied to
the drive via this connector.
This power connector is usually used by low-power computer systems.
The pin assignment in the following table differ from the pin
assignments specified in the current ATA Specification in order to
maintain compatibility with industry-standard conventions.
The recommended mating connector is MOLEX 5480 or equivalent.
pin 1 + 5 VDC
pin 2 +12 VDC
pin 3 Return
Interface Electrical Characteristics
------------------------------------
Interface control, data, and status signals are TTL compatible in
both send and receive directions. Maximum cable length is 18 inches.
The following cable specifications are provided to ensure system
integrity.
Driver IOL sink current = 12 milliamps (minimum)
Driver IOH source current is -400 microamps (maximum)
Cable capacitive loading = 200 picofarads (maximum)

Mechanical Assembly
-------------------
The mechanical assembly consists of a sealed head/disk assembly
(HDA). The HDA consists of a die-cast structure which contains
virtually all of the drive's mechanical components. Two die-cast
members create a sealed, clean area. Components included in the clean
area are the servo head and data heads, magnetic disks, rotary
positioner, and spindle.
Air Filtration System
---------------------
The drives are designed to provide contamination control within the
HDA throughout the life of the drive with zero maintenance. Air
within the HDA is continuously recirculated and filtered through a
high efficiency filter.
A breather filter protects the HDA from inward contamination
migration during air pressure changes associated with drive
temperature or atmospheric pressure variations.
Adjustments and Maintenance
---------------------------
The drives require no adjustments or periodic maintenance;
additionally, no mechanical adjustments are required to prepare a
system for handling or shipment.
